Caution and danger warning signs for workplaces
The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 require employers to provide a safety sign where a risk cannot be avoided or controlled by other means. Warning signs use a yellow triangle with a black border and a black symbol. They say "take care". The designs in this range fall into three groups:
- Vehicles and movement: Caution Fork Lift Trucks, Caution Reversing Vehicles, Warning Beware of Moving Vehicles, Caution Forklifts Blind Corner and Caution Electric Vehicles Are Operating in Area.
- Slips, trips and heat: Caution Trip Hazard, Caution Slippery Surface, Ice Warning, Warning Beware of Step, Caution Mind Your Head, Caution Hot Surface and the hot water signs.
- Restricted areas: Danger Hazard Area Do Not Enter, Hazardous Area No Admittance, Danger Arc Welding No Admittance and Danger Lift Machinery Access Forbidden.
Materials and finish
Every warning sign is printed full colour on one side. Choose 3mm Foamex for indoor walls, 3mm Dibond aluminium composite for yards, loading bays and anywhere outdoors, or self-adhesive vinyl to stick straight onto machines, doors and smooth panels.

How to pick the right warning sign
Caution or danger
Most designs carry the word Caution. A few, such as Danger Slippery Surface and Danger Very Hot Water, use Danger for a more serious message. Match the wording to what your risk assessment found.
Size for the setting
A4 reads at about 8 m and suits a door or a machine. A3 reads at about 12 m. For a forklift warning at the entrance to a busy warehouse aisle, A2 (about 17 m) or A1 (about 24 m) gives drivers and pedestrians time to react.
Indoors or out
An ice warning or reversing vehicles sign in a yard should be Dibond. Our materials guide explains why.
Artwork tips for warning signs
The designs use registered symbols such as W014 for forklift trucks and W011 for slippery surfaces, and the code is shown on each product page. Keep them as they are so people recognise them. For a custom warning with your own text, use a simple bold typeface on the yellow background. As a sign-trade rule of thumb, allow about 25 mm of capital letter height for every 3 metres of viewing distance.
