Signs and labels for plumbers

The signs and labels for plumbers that pay for themselves are the ones stuck to the boiler, the cylinder and the valves you leave behind: a service label with your number and the next due date means the customer rings you, not a search engine. Nine trade labels cover most plumbing and heating jobs, and a van magnet, NCR job sheets and business cards cover the rest. Here is what each one does, where it goes and what it costs from, taken from our plumbers and heating engineers range.

The nine signs and labels for plumbers, job by job #

Every label is printed with your company name and phone number, with a strip for your registration or card number as plain text. Scheme logos are licensed to their members, so we never print them.

At the boiler and cylinder #

Service labels

Boiler Service labels carry “Boiler Serviced” with write-on lines for serviced on, next service due, engineer and registration number. The Unvented Cylinder Service label reads “Annual service recommended” and has a line for your card number, which you can pre-print as text so you never have to write it. The Heat Pump Service label follows the same pattern for air and ground source work.

System Inhibitor labels

The System Inhibitor label reads “System Contains Inhibitor” and “Check concentration annually”, with lines for the inhibitor used, date added and next check. You can write in the product name or give it to us to pre-print as text; we do not print third-party logos.

Around the pipework #

Isolation Valve labels have a single write-on line, “Isolates”, so the next person knows what each valve controls. If you want a set reading “Gas”, “Hot water” and “Cold water”, put the list in the extra wording box and say how many of each. The smaller 62 × 33 mm size fits tight runs under sinks and in airing cupboards.

When you disturb pipework near bonding, the Safety Electrical Connection label marks the clamp so nobody removes it. It is the same label electricians use, printed with your details instead.

When something is unsafe or the house is empty #

The Danger Do Not Use label reads “DO NOT USE THIS APPLIANCE” with lines for date, fault, engineer and registration number. It marks the appliance; it does not replace your written warning notice, and if you work on gas you follow the unsafe situations procedure you work to. Empty Property labels suit drain-downs for landlords and housing providers: “Services isolated / drained down” with lines for water, gas, electric, date and contact, so nobody turns a system back on without calling first.

Which label material to choose #

Most signs and labels for plumbers end up in warm cupboards, lofts or outdoors, so the material matters as much as the wording.

• Matt paper takes a ballpoint or permanent pen. Good for boiler cupboards and anything indoors and dry.
• Gloss paper is brighter but suits fully pre-printed labels better than write-on ones.
• Waterproof polypropylene with a matt laminate is for heat pump outdoor units, lofts, garages and damp cupboards. Write on it with a permanent marker.

Van, paperwork and marketing #

Not all signs and labels for plumbers go on the job. Magnetic van signs on 900µ magnetic sheeting start from £19.32 at A2 (420 × 594 mm), with 900 × 450 mm to 1000 × 600 mm for longer panels. A magnet comes off when you sell the van or use it for something else. For paperwork, NCR invoice books are A5 with 50 numbered sets per book from £45.72, and business cards are 85 × 55 mm from £20. Allow for the NCR books taking longer (Saver 12, Standard 10, Express 9 working days).

For finding new customers, door hangers from £48.70 and flyers from £19.42 work for a street where you are already on a job. A PVC banner from £38.45 on the scaffold or fence of a bigger refit, or a Correx board from £20.88 in the front garden, tells the neighbours who is doing the work; ask the owner first.
