Chemical hazard signs for stores, plant rooms and charging areas
Under COSHH and the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996, areas and stores holding hazardous substances should be marked so people know the risk before they go in. Your risk assessment tells you which signs you need. The range is grouped by hazard:
- Battery charging: Caution Battery Charging, Battery Charging Area Explosive Gases, Caution Battery Acid, Battery Charging PPE and No Smoking, and Forklifts Charging.
- Chemicals and gases: Corrosive, Danger Acid, Caution Ammonia, Compressed Oxygen, Caution Chemical Store, Dangerous Chemicals No Admittance and Danger Petroleum Mixture No Smoking.
- Asbestos and waste: Caution Asbestos, Caution Asbestos Protective Clothing, Asbestos Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Waste Must Be Stored Separately.
- Atmosphere and access: Danger Confined Space Entry by Permit Only, Danger Confined Space No Unauthorised Access, Danger Risk of Asphyxiation, Danger Explosive Atmosphere No Admittance, Caution Risk of Explosion and the gas leak and shut off valve signs.
Board and vinyl options
All designs are printed full colour, single sided. 3mm Foamex suits dry indoor stores and walls. 3mm Dibond aluminium composite is rigid and weatherproof, which suits outdoor gas cages, compounds and plant room doors. Self-adhesive vinyl fixes straight onto cabinets, tanks and doors.

Choosing hazard signs
Symbol signs and combined messages
Several designs pair a warning with a second message. Biological Hazard No Smoking and Battery Charging PPE and No Smoking both carry the ISO 7010 P002 no smoking symbol, while the battery charging warnings use W026. One combined sign can cover a door that needs two messages.
Size and distance
A4 reads at about 8 m, A3 at 12 m, A2 at 17 m and A1 at 24 m. A chemical store door usually takes A4 or A3. A compound gate or a large charging bay seen across a warehouse needs A2 or A1.
Artwork tips for hazard signage
Keep the registered symbols unchanged so people recognise them straight away. If you need a sign naming a specific substance that we do not stock, send the wording and we will quote it. Supply text as vector artwork where possible, following our artwork guidelines.

Hazard signs are ready for dispatch 5 working days after your order and artwork are confirmed. UK mainland delivery is £7.95 per order and free on orders of £99 and over (goods total after discounts). Oversize items (banners over 3 m on any side, boards larger than A0) add £15 per order. Mainland Scottish Highlands add £10 per order. The Scottish islands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and the Isles of Scilly are quoted, so contact us before ordering.

What signs are there for confined spaces?
There are two: Danger Confined Space Entry by Permit Only and Danger Confined Space No Unauthorised Access. A third sign, Danger Risk of Asphyxiation, warns of a low oxygen risk. Fix them at every entry point so they are seen before anyone opens the space.
Which material suits an outdoor gas cage or compound?
Choose 3mm Dibond aluminium composite. It stays flat and does not rot or rust, so it copes with rain and sun on cages, fences and external doors. Self-adhesive vinyl works on smooth metal cabinets and tanks.
