The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 require suitable toilets and washing facilities. Clear door and direction signs help people find them. The designs fall into four groups:
- Toilet door signs: Male Toilets, Female Toilets, Ladies Toilets, Gentlemen, Boys Toilets, Girls Toilets, Male and Female Toilets, and combined male, female and accessible signs.
- Accessible and family facilities: Accessible Toilet, Accessible Male Toilet, Disabled Toilets, Accessible Toilet and Baby Changing, Baby Changing and Baby Care Facilities.
- Direction: Male Female Arrow Left, Male Female Arrow Right and a Toilets Directional (Double Sided) sign for corridors.
- Hygiene reminders: Wash Your Hands Please (ISO 7010 M011), Now Wash Your Hands Please, Hand Dryer, Please Turn Off the Taps, Do Not Flush Sanitary Products, Please Leave This Lavatory Clean, Drinking Water, and two washroom cleaning inspection signs.
Materials for washroom signs
Each sign is printed full colour in 3mm Foamex, 3mm Dibond aluminium composite or self-adhesive vinyl. Vinyl sticks straight onto toilet doors, mirrors and tiles. Foamex is a light rigid board for walls and doors. Dibond aluminium composite stays flat and does not rot or rust, so it suits outdoor toilet blocks and changing facilities.

How to choose washroom signs
Door signs
Door signs such as Accessible Male Toilet come in square sizes: 150 x 150 mm, 200 x 200 mm and 297 x 297 mm. They read at about 6 m, 8 m and 12 m, which suits eye-level door plates.
Reminder signs
Hygiene reminders such as Wash Your Hands Please come in A4 (210 x 297 mm), A3 (297 x 420 mm) and A2 (420 x 594 mm). A4 above a sink is usually enough. A3 or A2 suits a large staff washroom or a school corridor.
Cleaning records
The Daily Washroom Cleaning Inspection and Hygiene and Comfort Washroom Cleaning Inspection signs give cleaners a place to show checks, which suits busy public toilets.

Keep door wording consistent across the building so ladies, gentlemen and accessible signs match. For your own design, such as a sign carrying your logo, send a 300 dpi file with 3 mm bleed as described in our artwork guidelines.
