Keep Out Sign

This Keep Out sign keeps people who have no reason to be there out of the area. It is typically used in building sites, compounds, plant rooms and private land. The design uses a yellow warning triangle with black text, with the ISO 7010 W001 (General warning sign) symbol.

The instruction "Keep Out" is short enough to read in passing, which is what a mandatory sign needs.

Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 the principal contractor must take steps to prevent unauthorised access to the site, and safety signs are part of that. Keep a note of where each sign is fitted as part of your records.

For signs that stay outdoors for a long time, Dibond is the most durable choice. The options are 3.5mm Correx fluted polypropylene, light and waterproof, ideal for temporary and site signs, 3mm Foamex (rigid PVC foam board), light and easy to fix indoors or for short-term outdoor use and 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, rigid and weatherproof for long-term outdoor use.

Sizes and viewing distance: A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) (reads at about 12 m); A2 landscape (594 × 420 mm) (reads at about 17 m); A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm) (reads at about 24 m). As a guide we allow about 1 metre of viewing distance for every 25mm of sign height, based on the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, so choose a bigger size for long corridors, yards and car parks.

Where to put it: At every gate and entrance and along the boundary.
